The Cookie That Was...

Go figure. Daniel walked out with yet another cookie. It's been very difficult trying to keep him from the hoards of cookies that we've gathered throughout the holidays. If he had it his way, he'd live off of cookies - seriously. Daniel definitely has his daddy's sweet tooth. Anyhow, when Daniel walked out with another cookie, after having several prior, I knew it was time to cut him off. He doesn't have a very sneaky style, as he will rat out himself and anyone else that proceeds to give him sweets. So when he walked out with cookie number three and waved it in my face, while batting his big blue eyes, I had to tell him he'd had enough for the day. He willingly said, "okay, I'll go put it back, mommy." I should have realized that he was gone a little too long to just have put it back where he got it, but I figured maybe he got side-tracked in his playroom. Then he innocently came back and confirmed he put it back. I forgot about it until I sat down next to the box of cookies later, and saw the cookie that he put back, or shall we say....CRUMB (see red circle below). So smooth and innocent....yeah right!

Shocking, as I am just about to wrap up my post, Daniel just said, "mom, can I have a cookie?"

One Clutsy Mom...

Our worrisome experience last week: I was 24 1/2 weeks pregnant, and tending to my sweet little Daniel boy who had just smashed the hell out of his finger while playing cars with his cousin Jake at one of our annual Christmas gatherings. He was crying and bleeding as I attempted to carry him to the bathroom to get him cleaned up. Instead of walking down the stairs, we tumbled...yes, clumsy 'ol mom who now holds the record of TWO falls this pregnancy. Good grief. Luckily it was only 4 carpeted stairs, and luckily Daniel was not injured even further by his "graceful" mom. However, even though I landed on my knees, I must have jarred a muscle in my lower right abdomen, as I had a dull but constant pain. I kept telling myself I was fine and didn't need to call the doctor because I did not fall on my belly and was feeling the baby move a lot. But something told me on Monday afternoon while sitting at work that I should just call and check in. Well the doctor's office told me to go to Labor and Delivery (Triage) right away to get monitored, but was optimistic that everything would be ok. I met Jay at home and we went to the hospital together. Everything was ok (baby's heartbeat and contraction monitor), until the nurse was just about to release me...then the contractions started...and they were every couple of minutes. Pretty scary. The wierd thing was that I didn't even know I was having them because they just felt like the baby was moving; NOT like what I remember contractions to feel like! Anyhow, I was finally given a pill to decrease the uterine contractions and we were released after being monitored for about two hours. I was told one of the possible reasons for the contractions could be dehydration, which can cause pre-term labor (that's a scary thought so I have been diligent about my water intake now). After we were released, we went to pick up Daniel (thank goodness we have a wonderful daycare lady that does not charge by the minute if we are late!) grabbed some food and I passed out for the night. Good thing they only gave me a half-dose or else I probably would've slept for two days straight! It was some powerful stuff. Luckily we have an amazing, supportive family who came to the rescue (while making me lay on the couch!) and helped get the house ready for our Christmas Eve dinner, including laundry, grocery shopping for the Christmas Eve dinner, and wrapping all of our presents! In addition, everyone brought side dishes and goodies for our dinner which were all delicious and a HUGE help! THANK YOU! Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day were wonderful and memorable gatherings. We missed all of you that are out-of-town!!!

A week has past since my fall, and while I had some good days and bad days during my xmas vacation, I am doing much much better today. Hurray! This little person inside me has to be one super strong being with a mommy that can't seem to stay on her own two feet. Here's picutres of the last ultrasound we had about 6 weeks ago (sorry I didn't post earlier).

Sweet, or not so sweet??

According to Daniel, this is my portrait. Not only was he SO excited to show me the picture in general, he was also very excited to talk about what he drew. I asked if he drew a big belly because of the baby, and he said, "yeah!" And (in my head) what I was thinking was my long giraffe neck, Daniel points and says, "and this is you-screaming." I seriously about pee-d my pants. After I composed myself, I asked if the dot above my arm on the stomach was my belly button and he said, "no mommy, those are your ears!" .....So he literally did think that the big gaping hole was my mouth. That is one ginormous head! I laughed so hard, but then at the same time I was also kind of sad. Does he really think I scream?

Kids say the darndest things...

A few weeks ago, Jason, Daniel, and I were out to lunch at Chevy's on the River with some of my co-workers, when Daniel is blabbing about random things, and blurts out the word, "muff." Luckily Jay and I were the only ones that heard this, we looked at each other and tried to ignore our 3-year old's comment. Well, last night I was working away on the computer, and once again Daniel approaches me and says he saw a "muff." This time in our own private home, I proceeded to ask him to explain what he meant. He said again, "I saw a 'muff' in your room mommy, come here and I'll show you." Laughing inside, totally confused and curious as to what I am going to find, I follow him down the hallway. Finally once we reach the doorway, Daniel pointed and kept talking about the "muff" that was flying around in the room (while flapping his arms). Whew, I finally got it. A moth.
