Our worrisome experience last week: I was 24 1/2 weeks pregnant, and tending to my sweet little Daniel boy who had just smashed the hell out of his finger while playing cars with his cousin Jake at one of our annual Christmas gatherings. He was crying and bleeding as I attempted to carry him to the bathroom to get him cleaned up. Instead of walking down the stairs, we tumbled...yes, clumsy 'ol mom who now holds the record of TWO falls this pregnancy. Good grief. Luckily it was only 4 carpeted stairs, and luckily Daniel was not injured even further by his "graceful" mom. However, even though I landed on my knees, I must have jarred a muscle in my lower right abdomen, as I had a dull but constant pain. I kept telling myself I was fine and didn't need to call the doctor because I did not fall on my belly and was feeling the baby move a lot. But something told me on Monday afternoon while sitting at work that I should just call and check in. Well the doctor's office told me to go to Labor and Delivery (Triage) right away to get monitored, but was optimistic that everything would be ok. I met Jay at home and we went to the hospital together. Everything was ok (baby's heartbeat and contraction monitor), until the nurse was just about to release me...then the contractions started...and they were every couple of minutes. Pretty scary. The wierd thing was that I didn't even know I was having them because they just felt like the baby was moving;
NOT like what I remember contractions to feel like! Anyhow, I was finally given a pill to decrease the uterine contractions and we were released after being monitored for about two hours. I was told one of the possible reasons for the contractions could be dehydration, which can cause pre-term labor (that's a scary thought so I have been diligent about my water intake now). After we were released, we went to pick up Daniel (thank goodness we have a wonderful daycare lady that does not charge by the minute if we are late!) grabbed some food and I passed out for the night. Good thing they only gave me a half-dose or else I probably would've slept for two days straight! It was some powerful stuff. Luckily we have an amazing, supportive family who came to the rescue (while making me lay on the couch!) and helped get the house ready for our Christmas Eve dinner, including laundry, grocery shopping for the Christmas Eve dinner, and wrapping all of our presents! In addition, everyone brought side dishes and goodies for our dinner which were all delicious and a HUGE help! THANK YOU! Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day were wonderful and memorable gatherings. We missed all of you that are out-of-town!!!
A week has past since my fall, and while I had some good days and bad days during my xmas vacation, I am doing much much better today. Hurray! This little person inside me has to be one super strong being with a mommy that can't seem to stay on her own two feet. Here's picutres of the last ultrasound we had about 6 weeks ago (sorry I didn't pos

t earlier).
