"Take My Training Wheels Off, Dad!"
This afternoon started off as a typical day outside...we got home from work/school and Daniel immediately headed for his toys in the garage. First, he started with his RipRider 360 which is so fun to watch him spin in circles.
He then picked up his skateboard that he mastered riding yesterday (skateboard pictures from yesterday)! Instead of kneeling on the board, he actually puts one foot on the board, pushes with his other foot and then puts that foot up on the board and rides it up and down the driveway.
His coordination amazes me. He practiced his skateboarding until he made the switch to his bicycle. He tends to ride it pretty fast and worried me that it would tip over while he's turning (even though it has training wheels). All of a sudden, Daniel blurted out, "Dad, I want you to take my training wheels off!" Jason replied, "maybe tomorrow, Daniel." Daniel was adamant, "noooooo, right now Daddy...please???" Jay could tell he was pretty serious about it and agreed. Within a few minutes, Jason came back with an all new, training-wheel free, big boy bike. They started on the grass and Jason held onto the back of the seat while he gave Daniel a good push. And...(drum roll...) off Daniel went! He peddled, peddled, peddled, and that was it! He was riding a bike all by himself!
He rode to the fence and then back while on the grass, and then went straight for the driveway. I was cringing, but not once did Daniel fall. He needs a little more practice figuring out how to start the bike on his own, but he'll get there soon. He mastered the art of turning the bike within minutes so he could actually ride
continuously up and down the driveway! We are SO proud of him! As he was intently riding his big boy bike, he yelled out, "now I can go to Kindergarten because I'm a big kid!"
